Machining Hub
The Machining Hub, located in Elings 2442, is an extension of the CNSI Innovation Workshop. The Hub is a galley-style shop with a variety of fabrication equipment.
X-ray Facility
The MRL X-Ray Facility provides state-of-the-art X-ray diffraction and scattering tools for characterizing the structural properties of a wide range of materials, from metals and composites to polymers, biological materials, and electronic and optoelectronic materials, across length scales from 0.1 to 100 nm. Capabilities include powder diffraction and texture analysis, high-resolution thin-film diffraction and reflectometry, small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS/WAXS), and X-ray fluorescence, supported by both commercial and custom-built instruments.
X-Ray Analytical Facility
The X-Ray Analytical Facility provides single-crystal X-ray structure determination for chemical and biological crystallography. Its primary instrument is a Rigaku XtaLab Synergy diffractometer with dual Mo/Cu microfocus sources and a photon-counting detector, complemented by a Bruker Kappa Apex II diffractometer, with both systems supporting low-temperature data collection. On-site polarized-light microscopy is available for crystal screening and selection.
Terahertz Facility
The Institute of Terahertz Science and Technology (ITST) operates a set of free-electron lasers (FELs) that are among the world's most powerful sources of terahertz radiation. The FELs deliver finely tunable THz pulses across 0.1 to 4.5 THz with peak powers up to 100 kW, enabling experiments in high-field spectroscopy, materials physics, and pulsed electron paramagnetic resonance that are difficult or impossible with any other source.
